Just like in a standard concrete paver job, the installation of the Andes Collection begins with the excavation of the area in question. The biggest difference at this point however is the depth of the excavation. Because the Andes Collection marble pavers are only one inch thick, the excavation need be only 6 inches below finish height (top of the pavers when the job is complete).

Continuing in standard paver fashion, geo-textile fabric is placed on the soil and then a minimum of four (4) inches of modified stone (quarry blend) is placed and mechanically tamped.

Once our sub-base is to the proper height and completely compacted, we install a one inch bed of concrete sand. We use one inch "OD" electrical conduit as our "screed rails" to determine the proper depth. Once our sand was installed we began laying pavers. Using plywood to reach the center of our area, we started with a Cambridge colored circle kit. Once complete, we began installing a Devonshire Inca pattern.

Finished except for the sealing to enhance the color. Now the one
question that kept creeping into my mind as we were doing this, will
these pavers accept mechanical tamping. Well, I got my answer, and the
answer is yes, but with an asterisk. That asterisk as explained to me by
the Andes sales rep, is to lay sheets of plywood on top of the pavers
first Then, with the plate tamper set to the minimum vibration that
keeps it moving, tamp on top of the plywood. It worked.
Once tamped, we swept in Envirobond polymeric sand, used a leaf blower
to remove the excess dust, and flooded with water to set the sand.
Tomorrow we will seal the project using Tamms Lusterseal 350. This
particular sealer should really make the colors come alive.
